Mountain Biking in Nelson

In Nelson you can ride to the trails

Why we love it: Harbourside is mountain bike accommodation in Nelson in the most literal sense. It's a 4 km ride along the Maitai River from your door to Codgers MTB Park, and from there the network runs across to Sharlands Creek and up the old mining railway to the Dun Mountain Trail. A half-day blast or a full-day mission, without touching the car.

Nelson has over 400 km of trail within 45 minutes' drive: purpose-built flow, steep technical lines and long backcountry rides through native bush and beech forest, often in view of the sea. It's one of the sunniest places in New Zealand, and locals rate autumn and spring as the best riding of the year.

We ride too. Tell us what you ride and how hard, and we'll point you at the right trails. Insider tip: try Te Ara Koa early in your trip while the legs are fresh, and book the shuttle the day before. Finish at the Free House garden bar in town, which is on the way home.
