No, it’s not a fancy variation from a well known fast food outlet.

Imagine your child is diagnosed with a severe illness! Your life will change completely within a few hours. In most cases it hits you completely unprepared. Fear and anxiety are overwhelming you. Your child has to undergo treatment or surgery in one of our big cities: Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch.

Not only are you concerned about your child’s condition; you also have to accompany your child to that hospital. How do you find accommodation there? Who pays for it? Where is the nearest place to get your groceries?

The Ronald McDonald Houses care for all of these basic needs of distressed parents! You get a warm welcome at arrival, a clean and friendly room awaits you, a communal kitchen with pantries, fridges and freezers full of food caters for your physical needs while you are supporting your child. Even warm meals are provided.

That’s why we at the Harbourside Motor Lodge Nelson have decided to support the Christchurch Ronald McDonald House with a monthly donation.

Helping support families while their children receive hospital care – nearly as important as the treatment itself.
