New Zealand
Kia ora – welcome.
New Zealand is a great place to live and visit. A remote island in the South Pacific.
New Zealand’s spectacularly beautiful landscape includes vast mountain chains, steaming volcanoes, sweeping coastlines, deeply indented fiords and lush rainforests.
Comparable in size and/or shape to Great Britain, Colorado or Japan, New Zealand has a population of only 4 million – making it one of the world’s least crowded countries. It is a haven for those seeking peace, rejuvenation and relaxation as well as a playground for thrill seekers and adventurers. A temperate climate with relatively small seasonal variation makes it an ideal year-round holiday destination.
New Zealand is composed of two large islands and some smaller ones around it. Many of the smaller islands are uninhabited.
New Zealands largest city, Auckland, lies in the northern part of the North Island.
The Capital Wellington (is) in the south of the North Island.
The largest city on the South Island is Christchurch, located on the east coast. Both Auckland and Christchurch are destinations for international flights and are starting points for trips around the country.
The easiest and most independent way to get around is to hire a car and stay in motels or bed and breakfasts. You will find accommodation in nearly every area of the country. During summer holidays it is advisable to book your stay in advance (as well as ferries, water taxis and activities). When travelling with a car you are able to stop wherever a stunning view or an empty beach tempts you. Make sure that your timing allows you to undertake at least some of the short walks along your route.
Driving in NZ can be often very relaxing, especially on the south island where your car is sometimes the only one on the road. Don’t forget to carry some water and food with you while travelling in remote areas.
